My Design Story with Carina Gardner

Have you ever come to a point in your life when you just know that a change is imminent? That is where I was when I began thinking about design as a career. I had been working long hours in a high stress, high responsibility job for many years and it was beginning to take a real toll on my health. But what’s a girl to do when she needs to pay her bills? My little girl self raised her hand and said “I still want to be a writer and an artist.” Hmmm. I vaguely remembered that dream. So, I began researching careers in those fields that I had always dreamed of working in but never had the courage to actually try. Something else happened along the way, my husband gave me an iPad Pro for Valentines Day and that thoughtful gift opened up a whole new world of digital art to me. One morning before work I was scrolling through Facebook and ran across an advertisement for a design bootcamp. I think at the time it was maybe $25.00 or something like that. So, I decided to take advantage of it. Bootcamp was so good that I decided to sign up for Carina Gardner’s Design Suite Program mid way through the bootcamp! I had done other programs in the past but this was different. I actually got to know Carina. She is the real deal. Every other program I have ever participated in consisted of me paying the money, and then me taking self paced classes. I never even spoke one word the person teaching the classes. No, Design Suite is so different. Not only did I get the technical skills I needed, I got Carina’s feedback on my work, business strategies specifically for me and my goals, clear direction and a community of like minded creatives to boot. Within a few months I was really making headway. I had opened some digital shops and was making sales everyday. My husband and I decided it was time for me to quit my day job and focus on my design business and I have not looked back! I have had opportunities to design for a large craft company, and have had the opportunity to contribute to many more design projects. I have been so blessed to be a part of Carina’s Design Suite and I would be remiss to not shout it from the mountaintops to all you dreamers out there who want to be a designer.
